Star Anise

Star Anise comes from the evergreen tree Illicium verum that is native to northeast Vietnam and southwest China. The spice is made from the fruit of the tree, and it is named after the star-shaped pods from which the spice seeds are harvested. 

Star Anise has an intensely spicy-sweet scent, that is warm and liquorice-like.
